VC’s in NYC

My company is finally in the launch funding round! So, to address the best available market for start-up funding, I’m headed to Silicon Alley, NYC, to find some Angels/VC’s to work with.

Is there anything it will be important to know going into this, and/or things I should keep in mind/look out for?

Once this hits the scene, I am under the impression the word will get around fast, so my approach will be very researched, strategic and calculated. That being said, I’m still new to this any any advice will be very helpful.

  • OP:

Seed stage, pre-revenue. This type of venture is not a consumer product though, it is a clean-tech manufacturing operation. Kind of an all or nothing type venture

Looking to commercialize the company/technology/business model

  • Don’t go after just the “sexy” name investors. Really look at those that make sense for your type of business. Tell them why they make sense. Find at least 100 of them.

    • Will keep that in mind, and especially while pitching. The industry and sector of this venture is clean-tech manufacturing, but this specific venture is just about the first of its kind, so it is certainly important to kind VCs/Angels who fit the stage of this company and target area.

Where might I find a list with all of these firms? 100 seems like a lot for industry specific. The SBA has quite a few, but they’re not really start-up oriented VC’s it seems. I did a google search and only came up with 50-100 VCs, with only 3-7 in my sector, and just 8 or so Angels in my sector on Gust.

Looking to focus on the New York City area

  • I want to wish you well! I look forward to reading the different news sources and wondering, is this that guy/girl from SA? 🙂
