I can’t find anyone else with the business idea that I am beginning to build, at first I was ecstatic, then worried. It is simple enough that I think I might’ve had competition, but now I cannot help but feel like there might be a reason

Find a client first, then bootstrap.

It’s possible that your inclination is accurate, but you won’t know until you know. The greatest founders build what they’re building regardless if it’s already been done. You got this.

Us e your common sense

If you can’t find anyone doing something that is remotely similar after a couple of hours of googling, then there’s probably a reason and it is a bit of a red flag.

Go for it! And talk about it with as much people, customers, friends, family, investors, advisors, mentors and potential co-founders as you can to get early feedback. I have had many people telling me they have had the same idea as I, but there is a loooong way from idea to execution. If you find someone, perhaps you can team up with them. Startup entrepreneurship is a windy road, better shared than experienced alone. Good luck!

You should get a customer to pay you to build it for them unless you are super passionate about it…

What would Steve Jobs do ( ? )

Thanks everyone for the comments. I am going to build it, and am working on getting something together right now. I think it is something that is worth existing, so even if it doesn’t pan out as an actual business, it is still something that has value and something I want to create.

I have wanted to just create something…. anything for a long time, however this is the first thing that has made me compelled enough to just go for it. The experience and being able to point to something that was made by me is something that I want.

Good luck. When you look back, it may have changed a few times and you can ask yourself —why didn’t I think of this in the beginning ?

We don’t know where our experiments will take us. But we do know one thing. If we don’t experiment –we will stay in the same spot we are today.

  I love this! That is something that I try and tell myself all the time. Don’t be afraid to fail, as long as something is learned, then something has been gained and you are better for it.

That’s a great attitude. That will see you further than the desire to make a few bucks. Nothing wrong with making money, but taking pride in what you do and being excited about creating original work never gets old.
