I was in the same boat 6 months earlier though I am not from mental health tech space. My start-up got impacted due to demonetization in India and I was not able to recover. Was very very depressed, never thought that I will be able to get a job due to gap. But my wife was totally supportive during whole period. We consulted a psychiatrist and sought help. I was on anti depressants for six months but was able to get a job within 2 months. So there is always a company looking out for you, just do not run away from trying. Since you are not currently employed that means you do not have a notice period and you can join immediately. This is very solid advantage that you have.
After 4 years running my media company and organizing events, the cash ended and I was almost burnedout… Didn’t knew how to pay the next months bills. Luckly for me, a friend sponsored me a course in entrepreneurship, and during that time, ended up being hired has a consultant for one of the mentors, 7 months later, have been growing my revenues sistematicaly working for 3 clients, and was able to pay most of the bills and start to save again. My 2 cents are, invest in entrepreneurship training, because entrepreneurs understand how hard it is, and will give you good advices and some, if they need your talent, my even take a chance on you and hire you.
Get back out there. You know you have it in you. Hell, call it a research sabbatical, you wouldn’t be lying and are a better hire in your field now more than ever because of it. You have a real opportunity to put this unfortunate experience to use to help others. Once you find how to take the positives from the experience and talk about them you’ll find yourself employed in no time.
