So did you go in knowing they’d fail and went in just for the pay or was there somethings that were not obvious during the initial interview? Do educate us, or Obi Wan!
The latter. You don’t see certain things in the initial interview for the companies I went in.
Sometimes what you’re seeing is the best education out there.
The truth is startups are just like old school brick & mortar businesses in the sense that you still need an edge, contacts, money and business knowledge to start with to really have a chance for real success.
Startups might have initial freedom in that in technology you can build whatever you want but once its built, you need most or all of the old school business principles to get it to profitability & beyond. The reality is there are endless people building whatever they can think up without any regard to if there is actual market need & without any idea of how to test it or ultimately drive the business forward. Hence, lots of failures.
The part where you said the actual market need is EXACTLY why the last two I was in wouldn’t take off. Of course when you’re selling something, people initially don’t want the product. Then comes the stark reality that the truth is, your product is NOT that good. There’s no real need for it for the market you’re trying to branch into. It definitely doesn’t sink in well to find out in the long run that people won’t want anything to do with you.
