Thanks for taking the time to answer the questions. I’d like to know how startups usually hire sysadmins, specifically early stage startups? Most of the early employees in startups are software engineers. How can sysadmins get in early?
This is hard, sysadmins are not nearly as necessary now that a lot of things they do are done by developers themselves on cloud services in the early stages. I think you need to find companies that have a reason to keep their own on-premises servers…. possibly in security, or a Bitcoin startup. For a lot of startups, systems are never going to be that complex and in order to be on the early team burning precious cash you need to find a place where you are essential.
