Airbnb drop your faux benevolent attitude already

Got another “Support home sharing today” email from Airbnb.

Yes, I’ve used Airbnb. In fact I enjoyed it. But Airbnb is NOT about sharing. Sharing means free. When you share a book, you don’t ask someone to pay. If someone has to pay, its called renting.

Quit hijacking that word for your selfish use already. Its dishonest and deceitful and its honestly nauseating.

  • Gosh, isn’t it just so annoying and infuriating! Call it marketing or anything you like it’s still a lie and an insult to people’s intelligence (and to the dictionary). Talk about being taken for fools.

  • I’m going to dedicate the best years of my life working for you, for free, so that you can take everything from me and give nothing in return.

At what point would you stop taking, though? Would you ever get your fill?

Rather than cry about your privileges not being satisfied by society, why don’t YOU give something for free?

  • Sometimes I get cranky and get upset over unrelated things/something astract, too.

But the root word share does not exclude fiscal matters nor does it imply the absence of monetary exchange.

To share can mean to accord or to divide in portions. If you wanted to specifically imply sharing without compensation, you could say room according, or room granting, instead of room sharing.

    a. To participate in, use, enjoy, or experience jointly or in turns: share a room

  • I almost lost my life through airbnb. One of the places I stayed at had a guest with borderline personality disorder and she almost strangled me to death in the bathroom.
