I don’t know if my feelings are temporary or if I’ve just run out of steam (personally) and whether or not I should continue.
I’m at a loss as to how I should recharge and get enough mental clarity to work out what the right thing to do is.
On one hand we have done so much with the company and although there probably isn’t enough value here for an external acquirer, everything we’ve worked to build will be worth nothing if I let go of it.
On the other hand, days can pass where I get so little done that I wonder if I can still be excited about the startup and get shit done as effectively as I used to.
Founder here, have been in a similar place. You might just need a break to get some perspective. When was the last time you took a vacation? You should seriously consider taking one. It will help you make decisions and know how to proceed. Even if you have to let a couple of things drop in the short term in order to take a couple of weeks off, do it. It’ll help in the long term.
It’s a grind. Take a break, recharge and then get back to it!
I would suggest the same solution: take a break. Do something else you love, change the scenery, and shut off all means of communication for a few days. After that, you will know.
I was in the same position a few years back. It was a luxury to me to even think about a holiday , but then it was a big help.
Sounds like you and I are walking in the same shoes right now. Can you followup on this please? I’m really struggling.
Taking a break is the most obvious answer. Another option is to rekindle your love for your business concept, try and remember what your higher calling was when you came up with your business concept, almost always there’s an inspired idea, a drive to change the industry, do things differently that made you choose to start a business of your own. Keep reminding yourself of your impassioned idea!
Burn out is part out this journey. Sometimes it doesn’t seem worth it. If being an entrepreneur is how you are wired you will keep going even if working at Starbucks sounds like a better idea some days. My metaphor when I feel lost in the ocean is this…. I am going to shore.. I am going to shore no matter what. Period.
Yeah, I’m the same. So nice to find this thread and know I’m not alone. OP and the other person struggling – I’d love to talk. Hit me up.

I feel similar. I am one year in. The business has a steady growth but I feel like I am working “SO” much that I don’t know if I am as passionate as I used to be. But at the same time it scares me because going out and finding a job is just NOT for me. I have not been away or vacation in years. I’m tired and my brain is thinking all the time… Will sale close, will workers stick around, should I hire more in case I suddenly get big growth, are customers happy, am I doing enough, is competition doing better ect.
