What is your diet/supplement regiment like to run your company at an optimal level?

Running a company is difficult, especially at the early stages when it’s just you or just you and a few other employees, which means that your workload is huge.

I find that sleep is by far the most important aspect of staying mentally and physically healthy.  If I don’t get enough sleep, my mind does not function as well as it should and the day seems to take much longer to go by.

I also find that when I don’t get much sleep, I eat foods that are unhealthy to pick myself up.  This is common sense though I think.

After sleep, I would say that the most important thing that I do is limit the amount of sugar that I eat. Refined carbs make my brain foggy; I can’t think clearly if I eat them.  Fat seems to have the opposite effect on me.

When I consume good fats, I can think more clearly.  Protein is good, but you should always take protein with fat or else you’ll feel sleepy, as I do.

Blueberries help big time in terms of having a positive mood and good focus throughout the day. I’ve also been getting into nootropics lately.

They’re a safer way to improve cognitive function.  Some people take ADHD type medications but those harm your body long term, and I find that when I’ve taken ritalin I can focus better but it’s usually difficult to tear myself away from unimportant tasks, whereas with nootropics I focus on what’s important.

I would love to read about what works for others as I’m always trying to improve myself and my ability to function as a founder.

  • Hmm.. I wonder why the part where I wrote about nootropics and ADHD medication was made in smaller text.

I actually have ADHD so I was legally prescribed the medication by a doctor. It’s not like I’m advocating that people take medication illegally.

Also, nootropics are perfectly legal for anyone to purchase, and they’ve been found to be safe.

  • It terms of the Nootropics; what brand and dosage are you using? Also , are you getting any side effects?

    Thanks.

    • I’ve just recently started using nootropics so I haven’t experimented with all of them yet. My quick answer for the people who don’t want to read the rest of my post. Do they work? Yes!

Now onto my detailed explanation. I’m currently taking DMAE at 351mg dosages once per day, Vinpocetine 10mg at 2 to 3 times a day.

I usually only take two dosages of the Vinpocetine since if you take a nootropic at dinner time, it will be difficult to fall asleep at night, so I usually take them at breakfast and lunch, since you’re supposed to take them with food; they absorb better that way.

Huperzine A 200mcg twice per day is also another nootropic I’ve started taking. I’ve also ordered L-Tyrosine 500mg capsules and Phenylpiracetam, and they should be arriving in the mail within the next day or two, so I’ll update you on how those work.

I’m actually very excited about taking Phenylpiracetam since it’s supposed to be the most powerful nootropic and can give an effect similar to what Bradley Cooper’s character experiences in the movie Limitless although not to such a great extreme of course.

You might want to leave an email or something in case you forget to come back to this posting so that we can discuss my experiences with these nootropics further.

Now onto my experiences. The first nootropic I started taking was DMAE. I immediately noticed increased focus while taking it, as well as very vivid dreams/nightmares.

Every night seems to take forever as I have like 20+ vivid dreams a night. I actually enjoy this aspect, although some people hate it because they’re scared of having nightmares.

Several of my dreams reminded me of things that I had to do but had forgotten which is in my opinion one of the most useful aspects about dreams; since they bring up you subconscious thoughts and memories.

There’s also the weird experiences of dreaming about someone you haven’t seen in years then seeing them the very next day, as if your dreams could predict what would happen.

I took up to 4 times the recommended dosage of DMAE without any negative side effects, however you should take the recommended amount because a tolerance can build up if you take too much, especially if you’re not supplementing with choline or eating eggs or liver enough.

I don’t supplement with choline although I might start doing so in the future; right now I either eat liver or I”ll eat egg yolk, which is also high in choline. Eat the egg raw though as you’ll get more of the choline that way. I usually get rid of the egg white since uncooked it reduces the amount of biotin in your body.

After that, while maintaining DMAE in my daily regiment, I began taking Vinpocetine and Huperzine A as well. I introduced both of them at the same time so I can’t speak to their individual efficacy. One is supposed to help with memory, and the other with focus.

However, I’ve noticed significant improvements now that I’m taking them. I can not sleep an entire night and still be 100% mentally focused, although I feel the lack of sleep in my body. I wouldn’t recommend avoiding sleep of course as the long term effects of doing so can severely harm your body or kill you.

I’ve also noticed a improvement in my ability to learn and recall information. Whereas normally I might read the same page of information multiple times because my thoughts distracted me, I can get through a page of information quickly and move onto the next without getting distracted.

Like I said, I haven’t tried Phenylpiracetam or L-Tyrosine yet but I’ll update you in the next few days about my experiences with them.

I’ll likely cycle Phenylpiracetam and my other nootropics on different days since Phenylpiracetam is supposed to be so powerful and also if you use it every day a tolerance can build up, so it won’t work as well, but like I said if you’re taking choline, this is less likely to happen.

If you have any further questions I”d be happy to answer.

      • I think I failed to addressed the negative side effects issue enough but that’s because there aren’t any that I’ve experienced other than not being able to fall asleep if you take them later in the day.

Nootropics behave sort of like caffeine, without the jitters. So, if you take them, you’ll feel awake and focused but not have the jittery feeling that coffee can give you, and unlike coffee you won’t need to urinate a lot, since caffeine is a diuretic and nootropics are not.

Also, the one other side effect that people might not like is having lots of dreams every night, but like I mentioned before, it can be very enjoyable. If you have recurring dreams about falling to your death, then yea you probably shouldn’t take nootropics, but if you sleep well then you shouldn’t have any issues.

        • Thanks for the feedback. Are there foods and drinks to avoid? I get plenty of eggs in each day after my morning run and sometimes have a whey shake in the afternoon. What about alcohol? Do you leave it a day either side if socialising etc?

          • I don’t drink so I can’t tell what being on nootropics and drinking is like, but alcohol is a depressant and nootropics pick you up so I’m guessing it’s sort of like having half the effect.

Some people do this with energy drinks and alcohol, but energy drinks have caffeine whereas nootropics don’t, so I’m guessing the mix of energy drinks+alcohol is dangerous while the mix of nootropics and alcohol is not.

Also, nootropics make you more sociable. Plenty of shy, clumsy, etc. people have reported that nootropics have made them very confident in social situations.

The most effective of these in doing that is Phenylpiracetam, which I haven’t tried yet, but it’ll be arriving either today or tomorrow so I’ll let you know.

So, taking these will increase your socializing abilities, not decrease them. Definitely take them before going to a party, bar, etc.

Regarding foods and drinks to avoid, I would avoid refined sugars. Other than that, you’re pretty much safe. Eating healthier will of course enhance their effects.

Keep eating eggs, but by the way someone suggested to me that if I take NAD my body will not adapt to the nootropics, meaning that every time you take them it will feel like the first time you took them again; you’ll get that initial rush sensation and feel like Bradley Cooper in Limitless.

He said he bought it from this supplier, which I’m not affiliated with in any way:

            http://www.amazon.com/Source-Naturals-Vitamin-Coenzymated-Tablets/dp/B001GCTVU6/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1394127373&sr=8-3&keywords=source+naturals+coenzymated+b-3

      • “Like I said, I haven’t tried Phenylpiracetam or L-Tyrosine yet but I’ll update you in the next few days about my experiences with them.”

How you getting on with these?

        • Sorry for the late response. I’ve been taking both of those for five days now along with my other nootropics and supplements. They both work great. My mood, focus, and learning abilities are greatly improved.

I can sit and work for hours without getting bored, and my ability to learn new things quickly has increased. Also, my memory has improved greatly as well. I’ll randomly remember things that I had forgotten.

It’s very enjoyable when I remember something from my childhood that I had thought was lost to my memory. It seems like the brain doesn’t lose many of our memories; it just gets harder to access older memories as we age, but with these substances it’s like I’ve been given the keys to access to those memories.

First few days I took phenylpiracetam without the choline and it worked fine but last few days I’ve been taking it with the Citicoline, CDP Choline, 250mg that I ordered and the effects have greatly increased.

I have a great amount of tolerance to extreme temperatures; cold or hot. I can hold cold things for a very long time, whereas before I had to put them down because of the pain. This is why phenyl is banned in winter olympics because it gives athletes who use it an advantage since they’re more tolerant to cold.

I’m lighter on my feet and my head feels like it weighs a lot less; I figure the extra blood going to it has something to do with that. I will be experimenting with Nac-Acetyl Cysteine, Phosphatidylserine, B-3 NAD, and inositol in the next few days.

I ordered them and they’ll be arriving any day now. They all have positive effects on the body and the brain, so I’ll update you on how they fair once I start using them. The main reason why I ordered the B-3 NAD is because it’s supposed to prevent my body from developing a tolerance to the phenyl. It’s supposed to also increase energy to the brain.

I’m a little bit worried about trying all of these nootropics at the same time but if I start to get negative effects I’ll experiment with the dosage and/or remove certain ones from the mix.

Anyways, let me know if you’re interested in finding out how I fair once I introduced the new ones in the mix and I’ll update you.

          • I’m interested in hearing an update. Did the NAD seem to help with keeping you from developing a tolerance to the phenyl?

  • I’m the original poster. Don’t read my comment below if you’re squeamish about sex related topics:

Another positive side effect at least for me, is an increase in sex drive as well as an increase in ejaculation volume and speed. I suspect that this has to do with the increase in dopamine that I’m experiencing from the nootropics.

I find myself getting aroused throughout the day for no reason, sort of like when I was going through puberty but not to such a extreme. Nootropics might be a sort of alternative to Viagra in this sense, although I’m still a young man, 27, so I have no need for Viagra yet.

    • From the effects, this almost sounds like taking Steroids. I would be very careful. Long-term side effects are completely unknown yet.

If you want to increase focus and sharpness, go trail running on challenging terrain, like through the woods on a narrow path, for an hour every second day. You will notice better endurance throughout the day and better sleep (and better sex) within 3 months.

      • Actually, nootropics have been tested for decades with no negative side effects, whether short term of long term. Some people have been taking them for decades; it’s only recently that the wider public has begun to catch on due to the internet and shows like Dr.Oz.

  • I would recommend downloading the book “Eat to Live” by Dr. Joel Fuhrman. I bought it after seeing him on a program on my local PBS station.

He absolutely re-educates people on nutrition – I thought I knew a lot about healthy eating, but I was wrong.

He recommends reading the entire book before starting.

Almost everything we have been “taught” about nutrition is wrong, and driven by the Food Industry, with a sustained misinformation program going back many decades.

He describes and makes you understand when you are experiencing Food Addiction – like you mention eating poorly when you are tired.

He describes the sensation of True Hunger – which I learned to experience and understand for the first time, to help break Food Addiction (eating bad/wrong foods).

For example, I had no idea that broccoli has more protein than steak. I did not even know that broccoli had any protein!

I have lost and kept off 35 lbs.

His recommendation is the acronym G.O.M.B.S

    Green vegetables, green leafy vegetables
    Onions
    Mushrooms
    Beans and Berries
    Seeds (and nuts).

He says these should be 90% of what you eat, and with the information re-educating on nutrition, he teaches you to understand why.

It is okay to eat other foods, but they should be more like “condiments”, or 10% of what you eat.

Vitamins and supplements won’t help. He talks about fish oil for the Omega 3s – he asks if you’ve ever sliced one open? Usually it is Rancid Fish Oil.

    Use ground flax instead.

Even Olive Oil is not good for you, as otherwise advertised by the food industry.

Lots more shocking insights and information.

    His work is truly amazing.

    • I’m the original poster. No problem man. I’m not in pharma; just an ordinary guy trying to improve his brain function. I think we humans can all increase our intellectual abilities. You don’t have to settle for the brain that you currently have; you can improve it!

      • Idea to get a Limitless pillow was my obsession too. I tried couple medications but didn’t get any significant results (I’m not in US). So I’d like to try the ones you described.

I can tell how Nicotine & smoking works, I just quit after smoking about 10 years. Nicotine is though to be nootropic too, and I would agree with it. And this is one of the reasons I was afraid to quit smoking – to loose my fast and accurate thinking. Pack of cigarettes & couple coffee makes blows your heart rate, you get a nervious, but this makes your brain able to make tons of FLOPS. You think 10x faster you can write or speak, you can simulaniously develop in your brain several project branches with dozens of customer/ business/ technical dependencies it has. I think if I got an numeric IQ test in my best times, I would get I think 99+% max.

This makes you fall asleep very bad because you become nicotine overdosed all the time, your body & heart are feeling bad, but you can focus on the subject 40+ hours without a break, what can sometimes end with a great effort done quickly. And I should admit, I came to couple great ideas for last couple years being in this drug overdose.

But negative effect are too strong, and I started feeling I would end up very quickly if I continue, so I quit smoking and would not recommed anyone smoking cigarettes of course. Also any other (legal & not) well-known drugs seems absolutely not safe for health, with serious addiction and quick end up.

A guy here wrote about sports, etc.. This is good body feeling, but don’t make your smooth and regular brain become fast and ninja-acting. Normally you would hardly get super-challenging tasks done, although you can work well as any other normal person.

In case you need something extraordinal, being a healty smart guy may be not enough.

        • Yes, and thanks for your response. This is about pushing ourselves past our natural limits. When diet and exercise alone are not enough and you need a little bit more thinking power, then nootropics or other forms of stimulation are needed I think.

  • A couple of things that work for me, but I am still researching:

-I skip coffee, because I am allergic to it and it can also make me crash (though I miss it), and stick with bulk green tea.

-Two days after kicking peanut butter, my creative thinking went through the roof. I have heard that there is a lot of mold in peanut butter, so that may have been fogging up my thinking.

-I have just added a lunchtime smoothie which I have along with light food (fruit, nuts, veggies). It is based on the hot pink smoothie from Green Smoothie Girl on youtube. I am truly clear thinking for the rest of the day if I have it.

    Thanks.

  • I drink a Rockin Wellness smoothie everyday for breakfast and it has dramatically improved my energy, mood, and helped to keep me in shape, despite not working out as much as I used to.

You can mix whatever you’d like into it. Here is what I do: 1 scoop Rockin Wellness, 1 frozen banana, handful frozen organic blueberries, almond milk, chia seeds, almonds, goji berries, reshi mushroom powder, scoop of peanut butter, 1 date.

The powder is packed with superfoods like raw cacao, is all natural, non gmo, organic, vegan, gluten free, etc. etc. The founder of the company cured his stage IV cancer drinking this stuff.

    Tastes great too.

    https://rockinwellness.com/

    • “The founder of the company cured his stage IV cancer drinking this stuff”

That sounds like a load of BS. You shouldn’t encourage people to treat cancer so lightly. Instead of trying to get real treatment at a hospital they’ll try to cure themselves with smoothies and end up dying.

Steve Jobs thought the same way; he figured he could cure his cancer by eating healthy, and he died as a result. Towards the end of his life he said he regretted not getting medical treatment but by that point it was too late; the cancer had spread too much.

  • Okay, I’m the original poster. After trying Nac-Acetyl Cysteine, I can report that it’s terrible. All the stuff that people have said about it giving you heart problems are true, at least in my case. Heart rate went very high, and felt sharp pains in my heart and leg. In studies done on mice, Nac-Acetyl Cysteine was shown to trigger those symptoms in mice and enlarge their hearts.

I only took one dose though, so I likely won’t suffer any long term damage. For those who wanted to know if Nac-Acetyl Cysteine was good, I can say don’t try it or you risk dying possibly.
