Suggestions On Getting Your Mojo Back?

Over the last few years I had my share of failures and personal family loss.

I have always been someone that had goals and worked hard and most importantly been passionate about what I do.

At the moment I feel a bit out in the wilderness as I am not sure what I want to do. Or say the type of company I want to build. I used to be full of ideas… But it seems that area has all but dried up.

The question I really want to ask is, have any of you guys experienced this and how did you get the vibe back?

I know people have disappointments and tradegy or scared due to previous failures. For me I am happy to jump back in but I can’t seem to etch out the path. I think when you know, you just know and hit the ground running.

Look forward to your feedback. 🙂

  • The same thing happened to me a while ago. And for a few months I was desperate looking to get my mojo back. I would go to work, and feel useless, uncreative, lacking ideas and the capacity to implement anything. I was also angry at my partners for not helping out, and even got a little depressed.

I found that the best cure was taking a little break. What I did was getting a job at another startup, working as an employee, worrying only about my job and the tasks I was supposed to perform, doing my best of course, but without worrying so much about the big picture, and of all the responsibilities involved in developing a product and managing a startup. I assure you after a few months I was relaxed, full of new ideas and energy to develop them.

A friend who was going through the same took my same approach, and worked as a freelancer for a few months before going back to the startup life.

After several startups, I think its only logical to take a little break, it helps you put your ideas in order and regain enthusiasm.

  • Thanks for the feedback. Funny you should say that. I left a startup last year as it was stressful keeping up with the bullshit. The CEO was cooking the numbers and turning over the investors. But that’s a story for another day. So I put my skills to use in blending digital and the old school of offline for service businesses. These are up and running but are there to drive revenue to keep the wolf from the door.

They are ticking over but I cannot seem to come with the right thing. I think anyone reading this will know what I mean. It’s not something you can force. When it hits, you instantly know. It’s the waiting that is frustrating.

Maybe, as I have been around the block a few times it takes longer to get the right thing to land. Who knows??

Be great to hear from others and the similar issues they have faced.

  • Iterate… May be with the loss you have experienced, you aren’t really dealing with that?!? Not sure. May be try to learn a new skill or get involved with a non-profit that deals with a particular cause you are passionate about.
