How much should early employees receive in a acqui-hires?

I understand money is paid back to the investors – but how much money are early employees supposed to get in the pool that is left over – say they owned 2-4% of the company

Ideally enough so the employees feel they haven’t wasted their time or got shortchanged. But realistically speaking, when a company is acquihired early employees should be able to buy a new car with their check but not a house.
