Employees of startups, how often are you doing your “job” vs reading articles and periphery stuff thats not exactly “your job”?

  • I incubate at an accelerator and spend too much time on periphery and watching shark tank :(. Its all for pitches I justify but I think its pissing off the director

  • A little. Most of the time I am productive and making sure my employer is successful. After all, that’s why she hired me.

  • Founder here. When I work, I work. I write code so I have to be hyper focused.

I use an app call rescue time…I give myself 5 mins during the workday to hit “fun” sites like hacker news. That’s it.

I expect my employees to be as focused as me, if they aren’t then they aren’t the right hire.

  • ha ha…good Q… I know a startup with CEO who likes to employ non-professionals, like circus artist, girlfriends, friends of circus artists, ex nannies, real estate workers, ex military … with one goal to save the money and to give everyone opportunity to grow. Or better say to boost CEO’s ego injured in early childhood by having slaves around who won’t object anything.

Nobody works full time, everyone just fuc*s around faking hard work and fooling this same poor CEO. The man himself has no clue how to lead…one got to wonder what the end will be like.

So to answer your Q – Startups could be ideal place for losers of all kind to hide and pretend they are working super hard and hell yeah, to get some cash for it.

Usually got to say geeks get the whole job done at the beg of any startup, but poor lads can’t do it damn all.
