Anybody had any experience with Venture Hive Miami accelerator?

 

  • Yes, sadly, and not much good to report. It’s headed by an ego-maniac with a “PhD in entrepreneurship” (not making that up) but zero actual entrepreneurial experience or contacts who spends most of her time trying to win ridiculous awards from the government. Worse, she describes herself as a “serial entrepreneur” and acts like an expert, but there is literally no evidence if any of her companies and the advice given to startups is decades out of date. The leadership there actually rejected mentors from SV and NY who were visiting Miami (people with real startups that had real exits), which I can only imagine was done out of insecurity. I honestly don’t see the benefit of the accelerator and I’d encourage you to apply to one outside Miami that can actually connect you with good mentors and investors.

    • I have lived in Miami for 30 years now, and I must say that everything you described as this one Miamian having a startup incubator is just about right for the majority of the city. I have never heard of this before, but I would suggest going elsewhere, where ego’s are checked at the door, and some actual work gets done. Things get accomplished. I don’t believe Miami has many of those just yet.

    • Wow, thanks for the insight! What stood out was the 25k offered without taking any equity. So, definitely not a top choice but could be useful to pass time working on your startup with some funds for living expenses while in-between milestones (like building next product iteration or getting into a top 5 accelerator).
