Am I a deadweight in my startup?

I and another friend started a tech startup 3 months ago – we worked on the idea, refined it, started the implementation and hired the full-time people needed. However, I am working on it all part-time. Now we have around 10 more people working in a full-time capacity. I’m still doing it part time because…

My 50-50 cofounder won’t respond to any emails or texts after I chewed him out over email. Trying to split up, but can’t work things out with non-responsive person.

50-50 co-founder situation.  I’ve done 99% of work for 8 years and brought on a co-founder in a new venture with him where he promised to bring in $200k financing and sweat equity.  He’s done pretty much nothing and puts his head in the sand when issues come up and shirks responsibility. I can’t take…

Should I add a late co-founder?

I’ve been working for a long time on a tech project that is very important to me. For the past 12 years, I used any free time I had to work on it. I managed to get a part-time job so that I could use the rest of the weekdays to work on my project….

How do I build some recognition for my hard work and multiple skills? Tips?

I am wondering if anyone has tips on how to build some recognition for my work, not just in a “touch up my resume on Linkedin” kind of way but in day-to-day situations so that I can get some leverage and respect from my coworkers, my peers and the industry. I have worked for a…

I hate my staff for making my life difficult. They are paid to do their job but they have a sense of entitlement. I wish I can remove everyone of them and just hire robots.

Closing startup with hate from customers after 2 years of promises we couldn't keep simply because we didn't give a shit about the product. Feeling like a liar after trying to convince everyone this was my dream when deep down I knew I hated it.

I quit my well paid job to start my own business. I used to want to do whatever it takes to make it work. All went well 'til recently – backstabbing & disrespectful co-founders, lack of confidence, burnouts, I feel worse than ever, time to quit?

2 Days being offline

2 days ago, I had a lot of doubts about my (not performing) startup and was really unhappy since I am lonely all the time (startup with just me working) and cash running lower and lower. So I took an advice from a friend of mine. I went to a nearby lake and stayed there…

Should I make this early employee a co-founder?

I recently founded an open source startup and have convinced ~25 people that it’s a good enough idea for them to spend a significant amount of time over the past 6 months working on it. This was my idea all the way back from 2010 and I’ve spent the past year doing R&D and putting the right…

Percentage of Equity for Mobile App Development

So I’m a developer and my friend came up with an idea that could be a great mobile app. After lots of dicussion, we decided to go for it, but the problem is the percentage of the revenue if we get money from it. We are still beginners and don’t know how we could split…

How do I deal with a business partner whose incompetence will tank my company?

My small but well-known company was founded by my business partner. One year later, his best friend got in the contract as a “silent investor” after lending the business a small amount of money to complete a project. This guy has never worked for the company and his “loan” was actually paid off, but he…

Worries of a founder wanna-be

I was really interested in starting a company. I learned about tech startups during my engineering undergrad, and have been always itching to try something of my own. I decided after graduation to get a few years of start-up work experience under my belt first. Now after a few years of working in start-ups (late…

THE MOST STUPID THING I DID: I became CEO of a burning ship and I won’t leave it

When I told my friends, they called me mental, sick, insane, stupid – and I must agree. 30 days ago, I, female, 29 and with no experience as a CEO, took over my company with a runway of maybe 4 months and with fires all over the place. This company is burning where a company…

Me every night: why are customers so stupid? First they don't understand what I'm offering them for months. Finally, they buy anyway. But then they pay 4 weeks after deadline? Work would be really nice if the customers weren't there. #b2bInGermany

I invested in 5 startups on behalf of a large corporation and worked at two Series A startups – I thought founding one would be MUCH easier than it is. I am getting my ass kicked everyday. It is not easy or filled with glory.

Somewhere deep inside I disrespect my co-founder. I think all the problems we have with our startup root in that.
