My startup idea is stupid. “It is a feature, not a product.” Any decent 2nd CS student could have made a MVP in 2 days. No one has done it only because tech community doesn’t see this pressing issue in my industry. I am depressed by this thought.

  • There is absolutely nothing wrong with features UNLESS it requires using another product in order to use your feature. If the feature is valuable as a standalone service and its a big pain point, you can tell the naysayers to go eff off.

  • Sometimes I wonder the same. But then I tell myself: how hard could it be to build the MVP for Twitter? 10 mediocre engineers in 10 weeks should be plenty. And it decidedly looks like a feature of Facebook. Had the founders of Twitter thought this way the company would have never been launched.

  • I’m confused – if you don’t see the potential for the product, how exactly are you going to communicate it to others whether investors, prospective employees or customers?

    What was the purpose for you to built the MVP and spend time on the idea then?

    I’d also note that execution is what matters most of the time, anyway. If you can build the MVP and find a way to get traction with it, then it isn’t a stupid idea.

    Or put another way: if its stupid, and it works, it ain’t stupid.

  • your self awareness could be your biggest strength AND weakness. either commit to it or cut your losses and work on something that matters more to you.
