Am going crazy. Cash has dried up. I can’t sleep and keep thinking about my startup and the consequences this month. I am scared. I am anxious. I wake up in the middle of the night sweating and my heart beating so fast I am scared am getting a heart attack. I don’t know what to do and whom to ask. Despite all this I still have to pretend enthusiasm and energy around my employees. My mind is filled with all kinds of negative thoughts and I might be depressed but don’t know how to get out of this situation.

  • You’re burnout.

    Take couple of days off.

And work less for couple of days.

    There are always solutions.

If you have great engineers, you can have them do some consulting part time for the company to get some cash in.

If you have a great tech, you can sell an exclusive license for a certain industry to someone.

I feel the same emotions as you too often. We all do. When it starts to paralyse me, I just stop working and try to cool my head off.

If you panic for five days this week, you’ll waste a week.

If you spend two days off, then find real solutions to the most critical problems in the three remaining days, you’ll have earned your week.

Do not get trapped with guilt, you’re going through something really tough, nobody would stay rock solid in your shoes unless they take the time to cool their head off. No one.

    Even Elon Musk cried.

  • Well, you are not alone. I have felt this way and many people have. Starting a business is not an easy job specially if you are a solo entrepreneur.

Solution, stop overthinking and get rid of your fear about the future. How, well sit down quietly and take some deep breath. When you are in a relaxed position, think what your worry will do – will it solve problems, will it bring more business. Answer is NO. Its all in your mind thats my point and you and only you can control this. Remember you are not weak.

Make a list of problems/priorities and list down there position solutions. Next step is to delegate things. Do not overburden yourself with all of the work. If you have a team utilize that to the fullest potential.

Solution to most of problems are very easy most of the times. Its just we complicate things by overthinking and fearing in advance about them. Hope this helps.

  • Focus. Just focus on the funding, trust your team to survive some time with anything else. Is there any public funding instruments available? Are there any investors that could invest more or lend some cash? Can you and your team do something else to earn money? Is there some customer case that you could speed up for payment? Does your team have ideas? How about crowdfunding? If you let go of all other worries, you free capacity for your extraordinary brain to solve this one issue. And at least for me it works to be honest with the team. They joined a startup, that makes them extraordinary people, too.

  • Thank you for sharing this. I get the same way too. I meditate in the morning and write gratitude lists morning and night, which helps remind me there are some great things in my life still. I write 10-20 things. It helps!

  • I am feeling the same way. I have no solution. I have been transparent with my employees because they need to know that there is no money, I am also hustling for client work to keep us all going.
